Happy Birthday Malakai!

We had lots of fun celebrating Malakai's first birthday! I can't believe how much they change in the first year. Here he is just after he was born. He was 7lbs 6oz and 20 inches long.

And here is how he is today! Just a little different. Right? He is still my baby. He is now 19lbs! Almost ready for his forward facing car seat that he got for his birthday. He also got a ball that he loves to play with, a sippy cup that has a straw and doesn't spill(ok so that one was for his parents sanity), and a leap frog toy that he can push the buttons and they make noises. This is the messiest Kai got with his cake.

Singing "Happy Birthday" to Malakai

Our attempt to get him in the cake. I think I trained him too well. He knows he is supposed to wait until I get his food into bite sized pieces. Marie did her best to get him messy, but he just thought she was going to feed him.

In and Out

I keep the cookie sheets below the oven. He was pulling them out and I let him so I could get other things done. I looked back at him a minute later and he had climbed in.

I can't believe he can do this. I helped him the first couple times because I thought he was going to faceplant into the box, but he didn't, even when I didn't help him.

Getting into Things

Modeling his new outfit he got for his birthday from Ivy.

This is our attempt to get a cute picture of him sitting on the couch. He does not stay still long enough though.

What I have learned of this kid so far, is that if he is being quiet and playing by himself.....he is probably up to no good.

Getting into the pots and pans cupboard.

Strainers go on your face...what else would you do with it?

Found the box of pens and dumped them all out!

Sippy cups and Sunsets

Kai learned how to tip his sippy cup! This is something I'm really excited about. We are trying to get him used to his sippy cup instead of a bottle. For a while he could drink out of the sippy cup, but he would just sit there while you held it up to his mouth. Now he walks around, drinking from his sippy cup. He also just learned how to suck out of a straw. I'm going to get some plastic straws for him to drink his green smoothie. Should be a little less messy.

Texting in his sunglasses. He loves to do this! When you put his sunglasses on him, he grins and gets excited. He will take a phone and walk around pushing buttons, he is probably mirroring what he sees.

A beautiful sunset, right outside our window. I'm glad I caught this, because it was gone a couple minutes later.

I can't really seem to get much of this on video. He likes to dance. He swings his arms around when he hears music and its really cute. But whenever I take the camera out, he stops dancing and goes for the camera.

We recently went to the zoo. It was lots of fun, and it really was free. We actually found some free parking, and had to walk just about as much as if we paid for parking. The line of cars to get into the parking was ridiculous anyway. They had lots of elephants there, the way they put the elephants, you definitely got to see them. They had a cute baby elephant who went for a swim, and cuddled trunks with the Mama elephant. It was so adorable. Unfortunately, we forgot our camera. So we'll have to go again and take pictures. Malakai not only stayed awake through the whole zoo, he actually paid attention to the bigger animals. He would beg me to put him down, and he would walk along the trail. People would walk by and and say things like "wow, how old is he?" , "he walks better than me" and "He's a little baby walking, he looks like he is 6 months old!". It was pretty funny. Our cute kid is so little, people don't think he is old enough to walk!
